Miami and Fort Lauderdale: good idea for your vacation in Florida?
Miami is synonymous with hot beaches and hot bodies (which always go hand in hand, don’t they?). Add a lot of places to shop, great night clubs and some museums to check out and you’ve got a lovely place to spend your vacation.
Miami’s weather is hot, particularly during the summer. From June to September the temperatures are usually over 90F and the humidity is high, which means you’ll be spending your vacation in an oven. If you know that these temperatures aren’t something you can handle, it’s best to visit Miami during winter when the average temperature is around 75F.
Getting to Miami
The city is served by Miami International Airport, an important hub in the area. It receives flights to Miami from all over USA, the Americas, Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania. The airport is large and busy so allow plenty of time to find your way around. American Airlines has a major hub here so it’s best to start your flight search with this carrier.
Alternatively, if you prefer a small airport or you just happen to find better deals on flights to FLL you can choose Fort Lauderdale International Airport when you fly into Florida. Low-cost carriers prefer this airport so you might be able to find some good deals.
Where to stay
No matter what city you decided to fly into, you still need a place to stay. Miami does have a large and elaborate public transport system but unless you plan to stay in Downtown it’s a good idea to rent a car during your vacation. You’ll be able to travel longer distances to visit everything you want and you can look for hotels in Miami pretty much anywhere in town. You do need to remember that low prices are usually found only during the winter and if you spot a good deal during summer make sure to book that room before someone else does.
Another good idea is to look for cheap hotels in Fort Lauderdale . You might be able to find good deals on hotels located within walking distance of the beach. Or you can look into renting a condo. Since Fort Lauderdale is located so close to Miami – 20 miles – you can spend your days in Miami and sleep in Fort Lauderdale.
What to do
Both Miami and Fort Lauderdale are popular for their beaches. If you are looking for a laid-back European-like atmosphere, Fort Lauderdale is an excellent choice. Or, if you like topless bathing, head to Lummus Park Beach in Miami (along Ocean Drive).
If shopping is part of your vacation to-do-list, then Miami should be the center of your shopping spree. There are numerous shopping malls where you can find everything you can think of. When it comes to clothes shopping, there are both designer shops ad cheap clothing stores in most malls. Needless to say the malls are also packed with restaurants and movie theaters.
