Historic Castillo de San Marcus in St. Augestine

Historic Castillo de San Marcus is located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida. Originally constructed in 1672, the Castillo is the oldest masonry, and only standing 17th Century for in North America. This 20.5 acre park includes part of the walls that originally surrounded St. Augustine and its city gates. Step back in time as you see period appropriate weapons, technology, and clothing which celebrate the history of St. Augustine.

Cultures Featured
At the Castillo de San Marcus the history of St. Augustine’s people is a celebrated part of the museum. Visitors will encounter Native American, Spanish, English, Colonial African American, Minorcon, and American cultural influence.

The Castillo is set up to be a self-guided, walking tour of the grounds and museum. While visiting the Castillo, guests can explore the fortress and grounds using a brochure featuring a map of the area. Within the Castillo, you can enjoy letters and narratives from the people who lived through the turmoil of St. Augustine and the Castillo’s history. Park rangers can be found giving educational talks about the history and culture of the park throughout the day.

A twenty-five minute video is played every hour, showing park history as well as musket and cannon battles. Re-enactors can be seen on the grounds dressed in era appropriate clothing, demonstrating the life and experiences of the colonists as well as musket and canon displays.

The gun deck on the Castillo offers visitors the perfect picnic location to view the sights of the Castillo and St. Augustine.

Hours of Operation
The park is open 8:45 a.m. until 5:15 p.m everyday, with the exception of being closed on Christmas. The ticket booth closes at 4:45 p.m

Adults (age 16+) $6.00 This ticket is good for a seven day period.
Children (15-) are free but must be accompanied by an adult.

$ .50 per hour with two hour limit onsite.
Paid all day parking is available one block away from the facility in the city of St. Augustine.
