Florida’s Cold Snap Might Mean More Travel Deals
During normal times, when you think about a wintertime trip to Florida, you’re dreaming of stripping off that heavy winter coat and digging your swimsuit out of storage for a brief thawing period. There’s a reason Florida is such a magnet for retired midwesterners who flock there in droves as soon as the first flakes hit the ground at home.
But this year is different. This year, it’s cold in Florida.
Now, cold in Florida is still probably much warmer than most places in the northern US, so you might think the folks in Florida are whining over nothing right now. You might be singing a different tune when you’re paying double for produce in a few months, but for the time being you might be able to get a deal on a Florida trip because of the less-than-ideal weather.
This is the perfect time to look at last-minute deals to Miami to see if there’s anything spectacular from your home airport. But if you can’t swing a last-minute trip (or there’s nothing on offer from where you live), look a little further out anyway. Because the slower the tourist season is right now, the longer low fares will last.
The other thing to remember is that this cold weather is extremely unusual, and Florida could snap out of it at any time. If you lock in a trip with lower fares available now you’ll enjoy your trip even more.
Unfortunately, your window for finding super cheap flights to Miami is a little smaller this year than it might otherwise be. Why? Because the Super Bowl is in Miami this year (buy Super Bowl Tickets) – which, come to think of it, is a great event to build a trip around. You just need to be a little more careful about the “deals” you see. Even though there are lots of Super Bowl travel deals out there, they’re not all going to save you money. You might be able to find cheaper airfare if you book separately, and if you don’t find cheap hotels in Miami for the big game remember that Fort Lauderdale is pretty close.
In short, although it’s a little chillier than normal in Florida right now, this is still a good time to visit the “Sunshine State” and take advantage of what could be some very short-lived travel deals.
