Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary
Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary – Florida is a sparkling jewel of natural beauty nestled in 11,000 acres of peaceful wilderness. Adjacent to the Gulf coast of Collier County, the attraction offers a fascinating glimpse into four individual Florida environments.
A 2.25 mile raised boardwalk escorts visitors through a swampy cypress forest, a teeming marshland, and the distinctively different wet prairie and pine upland areas. Informative signs and benches offer an occasional rest and opportunities to observe native plants, animals and insects at close range. Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary – Florida recommends that visitors allow 2-3 hours for a complete experience, however a shorter one-mile walk is another option.
What To Expect
The weather in Florida can be unpredictable at any time of year. Visitors should be prepared for sunny or rainy conditions, often changing within minutes. Although some shelters are provided along the boardwalk, be sure to bring sunscreen and an umbrella or rain poncho just in case. Bug repellent, however, is not required. The natural ecosystem keeps the populations of mosquitoes and biting flies to a minimum.
Hours of Operation
The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary – Florida is open 365 days a year, except on the rare occasion of extremely violent weather. October 1 through April 10, the attraction is open 7:00 am until 5:30 pm; and April 11 through September 30, hours are 7:00 am until 7:30 pm. Please note, all visitors must gain admission no later than one hour before closing to ensure enough time to complete the tour).
The price of admission is $10 for adults and just $4 for children 6-18. Under 6: free. Discount admission available for college students: $6; and National Audubon Society members: $4
How To Get There
Take exit 111 from I-75 (avoid Corkscrew Road exit 123). Follow the Corkscrew Sanctuary signs east along Immokalee Road (County Road 846) for approximately 15 miles. Turn north at Sanctuary Road West and continue to the entrance of Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary – Florida.
