Originally a winter retreat for the Bartlett and Birch families in the 1920s and 30s, the Bonnet House was designed to be an artistic retreat. The house is full of artwork created by the original owner, Frederic Clay Bartlett, as well as the many artists and Frederic and his wife, Evelyn, collected. The Lightner Museum is located on King Street in downtown St. Augustine, Florida. The Museum was originally built as the Hotel Alcazar and was constructed and decorated in a Spanish Renaissance Style. In 1946, Otto Lightner purchased the hotel to house his Victoriana Collection. In 1948, Mr. Lightner reopened the three story building as the Lightner Museum, which celebrates the clothing, furnishings, art, and more from the 19th century, also known as the Guided Age.
