I have been visiting Disneyworld since I was a kid. Growing up in Orlando, Disney has always been a part of my families regular summer time stops. Now that I am more grown up, one of my favorite parts of going to Disneyworld is getting to spend time in Downtown Disney. My family and I would often go to Downtown Disney for dinner or a movie. Afterwords we would spend a few hours walking around and doing window shopping. I love Downtown Disney because while it is actually outside of the Disneyworld park, you still feel immersed in the Disney experience. Downtown Disney offers something for everyone, and once you have been to Downtown Disney you will find yourself going there even when you aren’t going to Disneyland.
What to Expect
Downtown Disney has so much to offer no matter what you are looking for. There are so many restaurants in Downtown Disney that everyone will find something they love. They also have tons of entertainment for everyone. The variety of options span from things to do for everyone from teens to adults and even young kids.
The restaurants range from elegant to casual. If you are looking for fancier restaurants they have Catel, Napolini, and the Uva Bar. The also have many casual and fun places to eat. If you have kids they will love ESPN Zone, this is a great restaurant and entertainment in one. ESPN Zone has plenty of games to keep the kids busy while you wait for your food. Rainforest Cafe is also a great choice if you are looking for a entertaining place to eat with kids. Downtown Disney also has many quick eats, that are very affordable. Tortilla Joes has a take out window, that features all of their most popular items and great prices. La Brea Bakery has delicious deserts and treats along with sandwiches and soups.
Entertainment is not lacking at Downtown Disney. If you are looking for a concert check out what is playing at House of Blues. There is also a movie theater featuring all the latest movies. I love to go to the theater in Downtown Disney and check out the latest Disney movie. I have great memories of seeing Pirates of the Caribbean at the Downtown Disney movie theater. ESPN Zone has tons of fun games for all ages even if you don’t eat there. As you walk around Downtown Disney there are lots of musicians and performers that are lots of fun to watch. When you go to Downtown Disney don’t forget to go into all the shops and stores. There are many very unique stores that have lots of great items. There is a fabulous jewelery store, a huge Lego store, and a Anne Geddes store that is a must for any baby lover. If you are visiting with young girls Club Libby Lu is a very fun store, they have lots of frilly items that little girls will love. Club Libby Lu also has makeover packages for little girls, so they can leave looking like anything from a princess to a pop star.
Tips for Visiting
Downtown Disney can be very crowded on weekends and concert nights, so if you want to avoid the crowds try visiting Downtown Disney on a weekday. Another great option is to get to Downtown Disney early in the evening, that way the wait for the restaurants will be much shorter. If you are going to Downtown Disney with young kids during the day for lunch is the perfect time to go, then you will avoid the party and club atmosphere of the evenings.
Be sure to decide where you want to eat early because as the evening goes on the restaurants get very crowded. No matter when you go to Downtown Disney or what you decide to do you will have fun, because it is attached to the happiest place on earth.
